In Barcelona, Plenty Of New Smartphones, No iPhone Killers This week, most of the mobile world -- except Apple -- is getting together in Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress trade show. The theme, as we're used to by now, is smartphones -- and plenty are on display, including some decent looking new ones. But for the third year in a row, no one is showing off anything that's going to topple Apple's iPhone as the smartphone to beat. This year's trends: Pretty much the same as last year's. Shinier cases, better cameras, HD video, more fold-out keyboards. But most of the phones are still running the same old Microsoft Windows Mobile or Nokia Symbian software platforms -- that aren't going to set anyone's imagination on fire. Bloomberg And Reuters Clobbered In an analyst's report it is estimated that "global spending by the securities industry on data, largely through leasing desktop terminals, is forecast to shrink by 3%, or $700m, this year." As a result Bloomberg and Reuters will get hit with big losses, as they are the industry leaders in this realm. The report by Burton-Taylor thinks they could lose $500 million in revenue this year.
